IDEA PARTY
It all began with a question from a stranger.
I have just started my first year of college at the local university studying German-English. Every Friday I would attend the English Club, a club where I met native English speakers from around the world and learned how to listen and speak the language. One day, a woman joined the club. That day the topic of the day was “What do you want to do in life?” I must have said something memorable because after the meeting she approached me.
“I heard you want to travel around the world.”
“Yes, I want to see the world!”
“So, do you have plans on doing that?”
“No, I want to, but I am a college student, my parents don’t have extra money, and I don’t even know where I would go first.”
“I am organizing a trip to South Korea and someone cancelled. If I could offer you that ticket for free, would you want to go visit Seoul for two weeks, all expenses paid?”
“I would!”
Then a handful of butterflies in my stomach.
Then a big smile.
A few weeks later I was on an airplane.
My first airplane in my life.
Does this sound crazy enough?
Yes! Because it was!
This lady heard me and she wanted to help me.
Turned out she had grown up in a village close to my town and felt the inspiration to help me with my wish. So, she offered something to me that was small in value for her yet big in value for me.
By myself I only saw obstacles.
Together we saw possibilities for solutions.
